Xam’d: Lost Memories 01

Xam’d: Lost Memories definitely reminds me of Eureka 7, and that’s partly because they were both done by the Bones studio. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the main character board a plane in the next couple of episodes and start traveling the world while being chased by the military. I just hope that it doesn’t mirror Eureka 7 too closely. It’s hard to become engrossed when you know whats going to happen before it happens.

The first episode throws a lot of stuff at you, and it’s a bit confusing at the end. You start out with a ritual involving white haired children swallowing little green beads, and an unknown airship being chased by the Northern Government. The show then cuts to Akiyuki and his two friends, Haru and Furuichi, and follows their morning on the way to the school. After arriving at school, their school bus is blown up by the white haired child who boarded with them. After the explosion, Akiyuki is struck by a mysterious ball of light. Surprisingly, the child who blew up the bus is still alive. When she touches Akiyuki’s forehead, his face is covered with a mask and he’s engulfed by a white substance that pours out of his skin to become armor.

Even though the ending left me a tad confused, I’m still very excited about this show. It was released in the US on July 16th, on Sony’s Playstation Network. I haven’t been able to find the second episode yet, so I don’t think this will be shown on a weekly basis.

Himawari! 01

What do female ninjas, machine guns, spaceships, big giant robots, deadly bubblegum, smurfs, and a kitty with some mean farts all have in common? Himawari! I don’t think the first episode could be summed up any better.

Apparently this is the second season to this series. I probably would understand it a bit more if I had seen the first season, but I still find it fun to watch. I’ll keep this short until I get to know more about the characters and the storyline.

Natsume Yuujinchou 02

This episode was pretty much like the first one. I was hoping to dive into a bit of character development, but I suppose I’ll have to wait a bit more. Most of the story progression takes place in the past with Reiko Natsume (Takashi’s grandmother), and her relationship with the various spirits. However, of the 5 or so we’ve been introduced to so far, their time is rather short-lived.

Natsume Yuujinchou 01

The show is off to a decent start. My first impression was that Natsume Yuujinchou is a weird mix between Kekkaishi and Bleach. However, towards the end of the episode it seemed much more mild than either series. I’m hoping that it’ll be able to stand out on its own, and offer us something more original.

It’s about a boy named Takashi who is able to see spirits (ayakashi) that no one else around him can see. Apparently it is a trait that he took after his grandmother who fought with the spirits when she was younger, and they now chase after Takashi believing that he is her reincarnated. We catch glimpses of the past when Takashi returns an ayakashi’s name, and it shows how his grandmother originally met (and defeated) them. Most of the exciting parts to this storyline has been through these little snippets.
